Retail and wholesale are different research tasks

A retail buyer usually needs one selected variation and a simple warehouse check. A wholesale buyer needs consistent specifications across multiple units, written quantity tiers, packaging details and a plan for defects. Start with a sample order

Before committing to clothing, sneakers, bags or watches in quantity, order a representative sample where possible. Confirm measurements, color, packaging and visible condition. A sample reduces uncertainty but does not guarantee every later unit will be identical, so agree on batch-level inspection criteria.

Ask for a quantity-specific quotation

State product URL, exact variation, quantity per size or color, packaging requirements and destination. Ask whether the quote includes domestic freight to the buying platform warehouse. Record the quote date and validity period. Do not describe a price as wholesale unless the seller explicitly ties it to quantity and terms.

Model landed cost instead of product price

Separate product cost, China domestic shipping, buying service fees, payment conversion, inspection, packaging, international freight, insurance and destination charges. Divide the final estimated total by the number of acceptable units, not merely the number ordered. This shows why an apparently cheap item can become expensive after volume and packaging are included.

Plan QC for the order size

For a single item, standard warehouse images may answer the main questions. For multiple units, define whether every unit, a sample or only the outer cartons will be photographed. Specify measurable checks such as size label, color, quantity and visible damage. Marketing descriptions such as “premium” or “1:1” are not measurable inspection rules.

Check shipping constraints before purchase
